There are several verses in the Quran that mentions about meteors, including the following,
1. Word of God,
If ye would count up the favours of Allah, never would ye be able to number them: for Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
[QS. Al-Hijr: 16/18]
2. Word of God,
Mocked were (many) messengers before thee; but their scoffers were hemmed in by the thing that they mocked.
[QS. As-Shaffat: 6/10]
3. Word of God, which explains the genie habits, steal the news from the sky
Remember ye implored the assistance of your Lord, and He answered you: "I will assist you with a thousand of the angels, ranks on ranks."
[QS. Al-Jin: 8/9]
4. God's Word describes the function of the star
And we have, (from of old), adorned the lowest heaven with Lamps, and We have made such (Lamps) (as) missiles to drive away the Evil Ones, and have prepared for them the Penalty of the Blazing Fire.

Description Hadith:
Some of the above verse gives us the conclusion that a meteor or shooting star, which we see as the sky phenomenon, is a true celestial bodies that used to throw the devil, who tries to steal the news from the sky. Brief description of the Al-Quran above, are described in more detail in hadith.

Description Cleric Commentary
When interpreting surah Al-Mulk 67/5, a period tabi'in commentators, Qatadah rahimahullah, said,
"God created the stars for 3 things: God made to decorate the sky, as demon thrower, and as a natural signs for directions. Then who is digging on the star, other than the 3 that, he's wrong, wasting its quota, and burdening yourself with something that he did not have knowledge about capital. "
